once there was a playground where a lot of children played.
one of them was named susie.
susie had a politician father and a movie star mother and was undisputedly the most popular of all the children. everyone wanted to be like her, to dress like her, to act like her. whatever she wore, they wore. whatever she listened to, they listened to. whatever she ate, they ate. whatever she thought, they thought.
susie wasn't a bad girl. she was just who she was. if you are raised from the very beginning being told how important and how wonderful you are, you grow up believing that. and susie did. her way was the only way, the right way.
of course, not everyone agreed with her all of the time. fleur, another girl from the playground, once publicly disagreed with something that susie believed in.
it took a long time for the other to stop making fun of fleur after that. things like that always happen to the ones who go against the head girl.
one day, another girl from the playground named fatima got into a fight with susie. naturally, the playground took sides again (well, everyone except for geneva, but she never does, anyway). to be totally honest, no one knows what started the fight. there were events that led to another, and stories were told from different views, but no one will ever really know the reason behind the very first fight between the two.
pearl sided with susie. naturally. pearl always considered herself to be susie's special friend, a little sister of sorts. other children whispered pityingly behind pearl's back that she was one step away from being susie's charity case, and some might have said it out loud in her presence, but pearl never took it to heart, because as far as she was concerned, she and susie had a bond.
so even though she wasn't as popular or as rich as susie, she still gave her all just so everyone could see how she had susie's back, limited though her resources were.
and the fight raged on. everyone thought susie would win, because she always did, so why should this time be any different?
little underestimated fatima had her allies, though. she also had her ways of getting even. one day, she stole pearl's puppy from her, saying,
"i will never give you your puppy back if you keep on helping susie fight me."
and pearl cried. she loved her puppy very much. what was she supposed to do? susie and the other children told her not to allow herself to be bullied by fatima, but that was easy for them to say. it wasn't their puppy that had been stolen.
so pearl did what she had to do to get her puppy back.
and the other children got mad (matilda especially, the little meany) and called pearl many hurtful things like
cowardyellerchickengoodfornothingnogumptionWEAKLING.

but you know what?
she wasn't. a weakling, that is. because for the first time, pearl made a decision, knowing full well that it wasn't going to be a popular one.
making a decision like that, one based on one's own morals and not the playground's opinion, takes strength.
taking a stand and choosing a life over public opinion takes strength.
holding your head up when the entire playground tries to bring you down...that takes strength too.
today, life in the playground goes on.
the children still think what they want to think. opinionated little creatures, they are, each believing that their truth was the only truth.
except there is no one truth.
however, one sure thing is this:
the puppy has come home.

let's talk about being overweight.
lest you think i'm getting all hypocritical here, let me get one thing straight. i know what a bitch it is buying clothes, particularly since most of the nice ones they sell these days are made for skinny people. i have been known to do the dance of joy on more than one occassion when i find a pair of jeans that actually makes my tooshy look good instead of massive. i have gritted my teeth and clenched my jaw numerous times over while passing through grocery aisles filled with cookies and cakes and other yummy goodies. i know what it's like to tip the scales, dammit. it's not a happy place, but i try to make it as sparkly as the sunshine supergirl possibly can.
HOWEVER.
if you have thighs the size of a baby elephant's, you really should stay away from micro-minis, don't you think?

Which Member of the Endless Are You?
surprise, surprise.
so the heart tells me,
i'm off to defend your freedom, baby. and i go
pfffft inside, like a deflated balloon, all shrivelled up and wrinkly. my freedom's fine. i can defend it myself. it doesn't need him to go away ten million miles way.
but it's what he wants. it's his future. and ours too, so he says.
according to him, we'll make it. this is us, after all.
me? i'm still going
pffft inside.
